Gilcom News - Oct 2012

Just thought I would let you know what exciting things are happening in the PC & Smartphone world in the coming months. Firstly we are looking forward to the new version of Microsoft Windows 8 due to be released in late October. Gabi & I have been using a pre-release for a while now and we find it very fast, reliable & smooth to use. It does have a new desktop look with things called tiles, The tiles are live & can be continually updated from the web. I must admit, people may find this to be quite different from the usual Desktop, it's the new Microsoft way of doing things, they call it the Metro look.

NOKIA & HTC WINDOWS PHONE 8 SMARTPHONES
Both Nokia & HTC will be releasing new models soon which will have the new Windows Phone 8 installed which looks great, they will also have the home screens full of live tiles & looks like the new Windows 8 for your PC. The coolest features with Windows Phone 8 are the close integration with your desktop & the backend services Microsoft & Nokia provide and the price. Nokia's new Nokia Lumia 920 will be running the new Windows Phone 8 & have beautiful hardware. The camera is just awesome, the screen is also just beautiful to look at. I want one :-)

TRICKS & TIPS
Changing your Desktop Background in Windows 7. Did you know you can download heaps of cool live desktop backgrounds for your computer & have the pictures change by themselves. To do this, right click anywhere on your desktop (not on an icon) then choose personalize then on the right side of the screen, click on Get more themes online. Choose one then click on the download option, you will then see a yellow popup asking you to save or open choose open. If you want to change the time it takes between each photo click on Desktop Background Slideshow at the bottom of the window and change the time then save the changes.

While in Internet Explorer click on the small cog in the top right corner of the screen then choose Internet options then halfway down the small window is a delete button, click it the click delete again. You have to close Internet Explorer & reopen to take effect
